Welcome from the Chair of Governors

Welcome to Blisworth Community Primary School. Whether you already have a child at the school, may do so in the future or are interested for any other reason, we trust you will find the school friendly, welcoming and educationally stimulating.
The Governing Body is made up of people from all walks of life.

Parent Governors are proposed and elected by the parents of pupils in the school. LEA Governors are appointed by the Local Education Authority. Community Governors are invited to become Governors by the Governing Body. The non-teaching Governor is elected by non-teaching staff in school. Teacher Governors are elected by the teaching staff. The Headteacher is a member of the Governing Body by their own choice.

All members of the Governing Body have DBS clearance.

All governors are willing to help and advise parents if the need arises. Parent governors are regularly available to speak to informally during the school day and a governor surgery is held on Parents' Evenings.

The Governing Body exists to oversee the management of the school. It works closely with the staff and the Local Education Authority to ensure the school meets the requirements of National Education Acts passed by Parliament. It is also responsible for interpreting legislation in the best interests of the pupils.

The Governing Body meets regularly throughout the year. Two main responsibilities are setting and monitoring the financial budget each year and taking a close interest in the development of the National Curriculum. Other important areas of decision relate to staff appointments, staff welfare, discipline, complaints, health and safety and building maintenance. Governors visit the school as often as possible and take an interest in a particular area of the curriculum and monitor its delivery under the guidance of teaching staff.

The task of a Governor is varied, covering any topic from attending budget setting meetings to enjoying the school Christmas Party day. Constantly changing requirements in education and the implication of national budgetary constraints present a continuous challenge. Governors take on the role because they care about the school and want to create the best environment for staff and pupils therefore providing an all round excellent education. I am sure that you, whatever your interest, will share that ambition.

I can be contacted via email at or via the office.
